Where is Belle Mare?

Published on the

Found in the midst of the touristic region, on the East Coast of Mauritius, the village of Belle Mare is a calm hamlet with a year-round temperate climate. Zoom on the specificities which contribute to it being a place where life is enjoyable, and one of the favourite vacation hotspots of both Mauritians and tourists.

Some history

Due to its rich cultural history, Mauritius has been occupied consecutively by the Dutch, French and English. Consequently, as time went by, several names were found to call, and often re-name the different places of the island. But this beautiful village probably kept the most fitting one found by the French, which is a simple, yet accurate description of the dreamy lagoon it holds, which, in turn, probably played a central part in the development of this place. Its turquoise waters and white, sandy beaches place it as an ideal spot for high-end holidays in Mauritius.

An ideal spot

Situated on the East Coast of Mauritius, in the district of Flacq, this coastal village is surrounded by Poste de Flacq, the ultimate spot for luxury hotels, Centre de Flacq, where takes place the bulk of commercial activities of the district, and Palmar, where other significant hotels can be found. It is therefore near the main commercial centres of the region, and the bus station among others.

Hotels of the region

LUX* Belle Mare

The 5-star hotel from the LUX* Resorts & Hotels family artfully combines fine dining, designer decoration by the famous Kelly Hoppen, as well as unique concepts such as a Rolls-Royce -tracted Food Truck. This fresh take on luxury, realised with a sense of novelty and modernity, is a distinctive feature of the hotel group.

The Residence

Also awarded 5 stars, this hotel by Cenizaro Hotels & Resorts is also synonymous of luxury. It offers, among others, a luxurious spa with an edgy decor, but also innovative and interesting activities such as a cinema under the stars, where movies are projected against a canvas next to the fresh night breeze of the sea.

An emblematic golf of Mauritius

Passionate practitioners and amateurs of the sport will also be spoilt thanks the infamous golf course of the East Coast which guarantees a change of scenery and full immersion into insular vibes; that is the Ile aux Cerfs golf course. The 18-hole green that is now well-known is found on the equally famous Ile aux Cerfs, a tiny island that is a 15-minute boat ride away from the coast. Golfers will even find a restaurant there to have some refreshments after a good match spent under the sun which rarely shines shyly.

A peculiar addresse

A rare, perhaps even unique concept in Mauritius, amateurs of out-of-the-ordinary stays will probably find their happiness in the Tree Lodge. Combining glamping to a concept which almost feels like ecotourism, this establishment offers regular rooms on land, situated in the midst of a lush tropical garden. However, the showstopper is a wooden treehouse, resting high in the garden, as if to satisfy both your inner child and your cravings for adventure.

Belle Mare, perfect for slow living

The village, which maintained an old-fashioned charm, as it is not the centre of commercial activity in itself, is relatively free of traffic jams and other city-life-related stress. Adepts of slow living, the movement which encourages one to detach oneself from industrialisation to enjoy life to its fullest, will therefore be able to find their happiness in the authentic and genuine village lifestyle. They will, however, not be steered out of their comfort zone if they are still looking for a touch of high living, between the villas and other luxury apartments which can be found there.
