January was a good month for the Mauritian tourism. The island welcomed 118,551 tourists. It is an increase of 14.4% compared to the same period in 2015.
Once again, most of tourists come from Europe with 67,120 visitors from this continent. The island welcomed 27,300 French visitors. This represents an increase of 6,8%. More and more Germans are coming in Mauritius. 7,954 of them have enjoyed a stay on island last month. Ditto for the Chinese. Records show that 6,520 of them have visited the island, representing an increase of 32%.
Of course, Xavier Duval, Minister of Tourism, expressed his satisfaction. He has indicated that effort will continue in eliminating the low season. He also explained that emphasis “will still be on the quality of our destination in safety, quality of service and cleanliness” in the coming months.
