Mauritius is now turning towards the Smart City concept. Despite the fact that there is no universally accepted definition of the term Smart City, it can be defined as a process, an aspiration and, at the very least, a project. It is a developed urban area that creates sustainable economic development and high quality of life by excelling in multiple key areas; economy, mobility, environment, people, living, and government. Excelling in these key areas can be done so through strong human capital, social capital, and/or ICT infrastructure. Many cities worldwide have already adopted a customized version of this concept: Stockholm in Sweden, Rio in Brazil and Lyon is the south-east of France. Eastern cities like Hong Kong and Singapore opted for a more technological approach while other countries have following in their footsteps by integrating new targets in a more thoughtful urbanization process.
