The Tourism Authority (TA) wants to show that Mauritius is a safe destination and intends to preserve it. Consequently, this organization operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Tourism and External Communications, raises the tone against owners of villas and bungalows which operate illegally.

The Tourism Authority is currently conducting a survey of housing proposed for rent to foreigners. Within the framework of this operation, the inspectors of this organization drew up 30 penalties every week since the beginning of 2016. Let us remind you that owners of bungalows must hold a Tourist Enterprise License granted by the Tourism Authority. The license cost Rs 10,000 for a residence with a maximum of four bedrooms. It increases depending on the number of rooms. All accommodation rented to foreigners should correspond to the standards to be established soon. It is already the case for Mauritian hotels which were recently awarded stars.

Robert Desvaux, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the TA, explained that regarding bungalows and villas, inspectors of the TVA will continue prevail in order to stop activities of the illegal operators. He would like that the people engaged in the rental sector denounce those who are operating illegally.

The aim of the Tourism Authority is to bring order in this sector so as to preserve the Mauritian destination.
