Ease of Doing Business 2018: Mauritius ranked 25th worldwide

According to Doing Business 2018 Report unveiled by the World Bank on 31st October 2017, Mauritius is ranked at the 25th place worldwide out of 190 countries. The country moves up 24 places compared its previous ranking which was 49th, with an overall score of 77,54 points.

From a regional perspective, Mauritius is ranked 1st African in terms of Ease of Doing Business in front of major economies such as Rwanda (41th), Morocco (69th), Botswana (81st) and South Africa (82nd). Mauritius made the biggest improvement in the ease of registering property in 2016/17. It did this by eliminating the 10% transfer tax and registration duty, implementing a complaint mechanism and publishing service standards.

For the second consecutive year, New Zealand ranks 1st worldwide, followed by Singapore and Denmark respectively. Doing Business 2018 captures 264 business regulation reforms across the 10-measured indicator sets. As in previous years, Sub-Saharan Africa is the region with the highest number of reforms (83 in total), followed by East Asia and the Pacific (45) and Europe and Central Asia (44).
