Mauritius commemorates the arrival of the first indentured Indian laborers

Today 2nd of November 2013, Mauritius commemorates the arrival of the first indentured indian labourers on the island. They first landed in Mauritius on the 2nd of November 1834 at the Aapravasi Ghat which has also been recognized by UNESCO when it was declared a World Heritage Site in 2006.Just like African slaves, indentured labourers from Indian have been of utmost help for the construction and development of the island without whom, Mauritius would not have turned into a tiger of the Indian Ocean. Those people have been among the first to start the development of Mauritius.
