A cyclone warning Class 1 remains in force in Mauritius. Moderate tropical cyclone Edilson has intensified overnight and continues to get closer to the island. At 04.00 hours this morning, Edilson was centered at about 425 km to the North North East of Mauritius and is now moving in a general Southerly direction. According to Vacoas Meteorological Station, the cylcone warning may be upgraded in the afternoon.
All schools (pre-primary, primary, secondary and tertiary) and training centers remain closed. Weather will be cloudy with passing showers over the high grounds and wind will gradually increase to reach 80-100 km/h during the night. Sea will be rough. The public is advised to take preliminary precautions and to listen to forecast bulletins. Road will be slippery with water accumulations and visibility shall be reduced in some regions of the island. Road users shall remain cautious !
